Kovalchuk Retires

At the age of 30 Ilya Kovalchuk has retired from the New Jersey Devils.  Kovalchuk had just signed a big and had 12 years and $77 million dollars left on his contract.  It is not often a player leaves the NHL in his prime, but on this case he is going home to go play in the KHL (Kontinental Hockey League) back in Russia.

Kovalchuk was traded from Atlanta (Now Winnipeg) to New Jersey  for Johnny Oduya, Niclas Bergfors, Patrice Cormier, and a first round draft pick in 2010 (That pick got traded later on to Chicago).
