DiPietro Making A Comeback

With Cam Ward sidelined for 3 more weeks, Rick Dipietro is eying a spot on the Hurricanes roster.  After many injuries with the New York Islanders, the former first overall pick in 2000 was looking to make a comeback this season, after it was announced that he would be put on waivers in the 2012-2013 look-out shortened season.   He was sent down to the New York Islanders AHL affiliate team, the Bridgeport Sound Tigers.  And bought out the following off-season.  After the buy-out, he signed a professional tryout with the Charlotte Checkers, playing his first game and letting in four goals.

However it won't be easy for him to crack the Hurricanes roster.  They still have Anton Khudobin, and Justin Peters,  both of those goalies aren't great... but they still have a better track record than Dipietro this season.

Diepietro was drafted first overall in the 2000 NHL entry draft by the Isles.  Playing 318 games for them, and only winning 130, with a SV% of .902 and a GAA of 2.87 over his career
